FOSSILS

There is something exhilarating about wandering in the open air in an interesting landscape and having the chance of encountering evidence of past life and environments just lying about.  This is one of the reasons I often go fossil hunting (especially as a family pursuit).  These fossils pages highlight some of our finds.

We frequently visit coastal sites, where the work of extraction has already been done by nature and fossils can be picked up loose from the beach.  Some examples of other kinds of site are also included.

I have added the main source(s) for my identification of each specimen, as I value such information if I encounter it elsewhere.  I've also benefited and learnt from looking at the huge amount of online material describing sites and/or other people's finds, e.g. here and here.
